Prologue
Out of seven billion people in the world, there was an exceptional woman who captured my eyes and heart. She was different from any other girls or simply because she was unusual.
As time goes by, she became weirder and weirder. She wasn’t a typical girl you might encounter. A strange lady who was not easy to read. A little bit clumsy and reckless and hopeless.
But whenever I look in her eyes, I notice something that fluttered my heart. Her eyes was the most beautiful I have ever seen in my life. I have seen the universe in her eyes. How it sparkled whenever she’s blissful, happy, grateful, thankful, sad, depressed, and struggled.
I can still remember how I met her. It was raining cats and dogs. The smell of the earthy soil was significant that time. The sounds of splashing water from the drain. The cold weather made me shiver. It was gloomy. It was melancholy.
I was walking in the road when she suddenly grabbed my umbrella and decided to share it with her. I was dumbfounded but then I saw her smiling ear-to-ear. It was the moment I saw her eyes glitter, her hair was flowing elegantly, and I found her lips attractive despite of its dryness. I didn’t see the embarrassment on her but an urgency. I don’t have any idea that time would feel like an everlasting moment. The time stopped but only our heartbeats can be heard. And I will never forget the time when she talked with me.
“Pwedeng makisabay? Sa may sakayan lang ng jeep.”
“O-okay.”
That was the only thing I have said to her. I was confused that time. I have so many questions running in my mind. I tried to open my mouth but no voice was coming. I only fixed my eyes on the road but the atmosphere was still awkward. Or perhaps I was the only one who was awkward back then. Until we came in her destination, she bid a goodbye and thanked me.
It was the first time I have felt the ineffable feeling towards rainy days and it was because of her.
Next day afternoon, it wasn’t raining anymore. But, the sunrays was too hot to endure so I had to bring my umbrella to protect myself from UV rays. It must be raining today according to the weather forecast. I don’t know what happened. I was going to mall to buy some stuffs when I saw her again. She was also waiting for the traffic lights to be red. But this time, she had an umbrella.
She was wearing a highwaist jeans and a shirt. I was watching her when she took a glance on my side. I immediately took my eyes off her, pretending that I was waiting for the traffic lights. I think she did not notice me or maybe she noticed me but forgot me already. I sighed with the thought.
We were in the middle of random people, they were busy on their own dilemmas. Some were talking, playing and texting with their phones. I noticed that we were the only ones using umbrella, I don’t know if it was fate or something. If it’s fate then so be it.
Hindi ka ba tatawid? 10 seconds na lang oh.”
But then I felt a sudden jolt on my arm, I have felt the electricity down to my spine. I was again dumbfounded. I was unconscious on why was she here beside me. She took my hand but I stopped her because I cannot take a risk.
“We do not have enough time.”
“O-okay. Let’s wait here.”
She smiled sincerely. There, I was fascinated with her smile. How did she moved my heart?
With everything we said, it feels like it was something deeper we do not know. She was a mystery. Why do we keep on seeing one another when we barely know each other?
Who is she to make me feel this way?
She was focused on the traffic lights and I was only perceiving things. That’s when I realized she was already under my umbrella.
Under my umbrella. I thought. I smiled, unconsciously.
